The CHIC DNA Repository is co-sponsored by the OFA and the AKC/Canine Health Foundation. Its purpose is to collect and store canine DNA samples along with pedigree and phenotypic information to facilitate future research and testing with the goal of reducing the incidence of inherited disease in dogs. The ASSA Board of Directors encourages participation in this DNA bank.
DNA samples may be submitted via blood or cheek brush collection. Although blood samples yield the largest amount of good quality DNA, satisfactory samples may be obtained using a cheek brush. Individuals may donate their Sheltie’s DNA to the Repository, by completing the “DNA Repository Application Form and Health Survey” form. More information about the CHIC DNA Repository and links to forms can be found at: https://www.ofa.org/about/dna-repository .
The normal submission fee for DNA collected at ASSA member club health clinics may be reduced or waived by contacting OFA. More information can be found in the ASSA “Health Clinic Guide”.
